An employee is eligible for the Employee Provident Fund (EPF) if they are employed in a company with more than 20 employees and have a basic salary and dearness allowance of up to ₹15,000 per month, or if they opt in for voluntary contribution. Even if their salary exceeds ₹15,000, they can choose to become an EPF member by submitting an option to their employer, according to this information. Key Eligibility Criteria Mandatory for Salaries up to ₹15,000: Employees whose basic salary and dearness allowance are up to ₹15,000 per month are mandatorily required to enroll in the EPF scheme. Employer Size: The employer must have 20 or more employees to be legally required to contribute to the EPF. A company with fewer employees can voluntarily join the EPF plan. Voluntary Contribution for Higher Salaries: Employees with a basic salary and dearness allowance exceeding ₹15,000 can also join the EPF through an optional enrollment process, as per information from the EPFO. Contribution Calculation: For those whose salary exceeds ₹15,000, their contributions and the employer's contributions are still calculated based on the ₹15,000 threshold. Active UAN, Aadhaar, and PAN: To manage EPF contributions and manage their account, employees need an active Universal Account Number (UAN), which is linked to their Aadhaar and PAN. |
